POP QUIZ : it's their last night in town. what do you do?
you take your dad and heida,
norman and jennifer (heida's son . . . natch)
someplace you KNOW will work
where any protest
will become placated
where?
but of course.

a day with heida and dad . . . and rodeo and cartier and barneys and . . .
a day later,
we were back at it.
you see, with heida (la "step-mom") in the mix,
we had to bring game.
so, where to turn?
that's right.
we went for the BIG GUNS.
a little stroll down rodeo in january (68 degrees)
some window shopping,
and try as she might,
no,
she could not guess the ultimate destination
she should have known.
it's a rough time financially for everyone. we're all scraping by.
that's why god gave us cupcakes
the inevitable red velvet, the undeniable lemon ginger, the ultimate vanilla bean milk chocolate.
it leaves you . . . sated in the sun.

a day with dad . . . shopping style.
it's fairly safe to say that my father and i have different takes on life.
that's ok. we have always loved each other and figured it out.
like, sure, he could wear more color. so i get him a purple sweater. and he wears it.
and there's that whole "republican" thing,
but i've learned tolerance.
see? it's like the WHOLE NATION is learning from us.
so when he came to town this past week,
tim and i took him on a roundabout tour of los angeles.
retail style.
some orchids at trader joe's
meeting the monkeys at maxfield's
doing some screening at blackman cruz
he mainly wanted to know where you would put a twelve foot tall amber safety glass and iron screen,
to which i said
"WHO CARES? it's GORGEOUS!"
see, rational discourse.
he did think the crane embroidery was nice
but then we found it.
the one item that could unite father and son,
north and south,
black and . . . bald.
i think he'll get a LOT of use out of it.
don't you?

take a vicodin with that cheeseburger, son. and post something distracting to keep 'em guessing.
puppy love
(i am too hung over today to be witty,
so i figure posting pics of the dogs being all cute will get me a pass. work with me.)
(like seriously, cheeseburgers, cupcakes, diet cokes, three vicodin so far hungover.)
(french 75's at lucques. three of em. cointreau, juniper gin, champagne, lemon juice, sugar rim. worth it. thanks for asking.)
