neon advice in a dim world -

something tim always always always has said to me,
and i have always found oddly calming,
and now seems to be surfacing everywhere:
and,
the eternal classic:

betty page randomness, one night in hollywood . . .

tim, eduardo, jim and i
went to meet luke one night in hollywood
for a "betty page" tribute night.
it was more
"drunken betty page wanna be with baaaaad tattoos" night,
but still,
kind fun.

GRIS MEANS GRAY - the may musings

one of my favorite parts of our home,
looking up from the daybed in the living room on a "marine layer" morning.
vladimir on the wall.
how a sunny, sweltering day on the roof can turn.
suddenly cool and somber.
the soft gray stone in eduardo xol's back garden during a barbeque
the rick owens gray called "dust"
the undefined color of avec,
insistent upon being in the chair with you.

FLASHBACK : dad and heida, Koi and Royal T

and as usual, it involved food,
food, and food.
dad and tim and i out at koi,
then wandering la cienega during the design showcases at night:
then, a few days later,
heading to culver city to have brunch at
ROYAL T:
a japanese "manga" tea house,
very very "kawaii"
(google it)
that also happened to have a few richard prince paintings,
a few john currins,
a few "landis about to pass out from hyperventilation"s:
no, seriously,
and i know how this sounds,
but how much better does it get than
eating kobe beef burgers and looking at world class modern art?
of course, tim found the japanese installations fascinating.
then he and heida found the "party pod":
dad was highly amused.
i LOVED this place.
it's a new "go" from the landis guide.

bebe and karin, in from new york and buenos aires,
these two lovelies launched my directing career.
the brought their friend alice (ah-leece-ee)
whom i now ADORE:
and this is how we all felt at the end:
