RE-GROUPING : going out with friends in NYC

-
every night,
another adventure.
-
there was dressing up and walking a few blocks
to meet katy and her fiance at their new loft.
-
for champers,
for celebration of their engagement,
for the sushi restaurant she took us to
that you have to have the secret phone number to find :
-

-
look how happy she is to have scored those rezzies!
-
-
then a few jaunts with mat zucker and bryan fuhr,
along with the met for mcqueen,
there was the rooftop bar of the james.
-
-
a cornell re-union, seventeen stories above lower manhattan :
-

-
and dinner with hillary,
at beauty & essex,
the gem hidden behind a pawn shop on the lower east side.
cocktails and fried oysters . . . YES!

the charlotte russe blogger style-off and coctail frenzy -

so after tim launched the new website for CR,
evelyn created a live-feed fashion blogger style off for the brand,
that fell right when i was in nyc.
-
imagine a room filled with new clothing,
fashion's little internet darlings,
an emerging brand,
coctails,
cameras,
and music:
-

-
then mix in old friends like richard christiansen and sara fisher from chandelier:
-
-
new friends like richard haines from whatisawtoday.blogspot.com :
-
-
katy dickson, timmer, hilary super, and julie greenberg from chicago:
-

-
shoes, clues, and interviews:
-

-
no wonder the racks were left empty at the end of the night!

THREE WEEKS IN CANADA - katy takes the town by storm . . .

-
when you ask people why the love katy dickson,
you typically hear them say things like
"have you heard that girl SING?"
or
"she seems to know EVERYONE"
or
"i love her shoes"
-
i love katy cause she believes in me.
-
from the start, from the very first meeting,
she believed in me.
and she fought for me, with me, and without me.
-
i love katy dickson cause she's my advocate,
my friend,
and my partner.
-
so when she came up to toronto for a few days to spend time
during fittings with us,
all was good with the world.
-
though i don't think toronto knew what hit it.
-
first, the venue.
CANOE, a fine dining restaurant,
on the 54th floor of a tower downtown,
complete with sweeping views:
-
-
then,
good food, some laughs, some wine:
-
-
then jess, in the middle there, crafts a way for us to all get tequila shots on the house.
-
which led to this:
-
-
then katy started asking questions about dutch people and deutschland,
and we finished,
and she and jess, yes,
sauntered out of the restaurant,
down 54 stories,
and out into the night, wineglasses still in hand.
-
-
best moment?
when the security guard ran after them and told them they couldn't take the wine out of the building.
katy smiles,
downs the glass,
hands it to him,
and says
"i just did".
-
-
then gets him to take our picture.
-
-
only a southern girl in a gown
can pull that shit off.

the friendly . . . erm . . . faces of MR BLACK, L.A.

-
why do i try to get out of my routine
and haul my carcass to mr black every tuesday night?
-
i think it's because i never know whom i'll run into,
or what i'll see.
changes week to week, from ronson on the turntables to leather daddies vogueing vs. rupaul,
to adam lambert to vera wang . . .
there's always a little heartbeat  you didn't expect:
-

-
some masked stranger
(we see you, luke nero)
-
-
perhaps the wit and wisdom of mr. guy branum,
whom i adore:
-
-
or the catnip-like ability of adam to draw the young-uns in droves,
though he is our reluctant casanova, indeed :
-
-
or the joy of bringing ms. katy dickson,
fresh from new york city,
and exposing her to the sights:
-
-
darlings,
it's all in good taste.
we just like to tease y'all a bit.

by day three, cupcakes were in order . . .

i had figured out the art of mid-march new york
sales trip dressing:
and progressed to the fine art of
lunch dining:
where one can rely on conversation,
work histories unfolding,
and the duck and kale soup with acorn squash and cracklings:
but most of all,
the small unexpected
nyc surprises.
like stumbling into the new bakery,
sweet revenge:
and their
fresh raspberry studded red velvet cupcake
with cream cheese frosting:
luckily,
katy called darota ahead of time
to reserve a table at the palace
for tea-time:
oh yes,
gossip girl fans.
all in all,
the street seemed to sum up the days
best:

they came to get down, they came to get down, they came to get down, jump around -

day two,
katy on full steam ahead,
meetings and coffee shops
and sushi out with AnaLiza:
then walking back to hudson street
and a little hidden gem,
the sound lounge private thursday event:
check out the gams
as we waited to get buzzed in:
in the door,
up a few floors,
and we were mixing/mingling/and dancing:
the ntuh ntuh ntuh that kept us churning
was from the hands of one
ms. jenn johnson,
whom five minutes into speaking with,
was trying to convince me to move to nyc to be bffs:
not a bad offer.
