a SF weekend, for no reason. which, of course, is the best reason.

-
tim seems to know that every once in awhile
it's important to drag me away from routine,
that even a few days out of my comfort zone
revives,
inspires,
makes things click again.
-
so,
in may,
a jaunt to san francisco.
-
-
by now, if you haven't figured out that virgin america is the ONLY airline
worth flying
(in other words, you don't feel like you're crammed on a bus with a chicken coop)
you're missin'.
-
and their new sfo terminal?
have you ever seen an airline terminal that looks like this?
-

-
it makes dressing up for a flight worthwhile again.
really.
it does.
-
-
plus,
any excuse for white luggage.
-
the city was alight that weekend.
crisp, bright, flawless.
-

-
we did the retail rounds.
leather corset by jean paul gaultier from his last collection for the house
in the window of hermes?
schematic for a PEGASUS?
check:
-

-
vintage jewelry on sutter street,
and the jewel of a menswear store,
THE ARCHIVE?
check:
-

-
can i tell you how much i love the archive?
i would wear every single damn thing they pick out that's how much.
-
-
brunch at absinthe
for french 75s and the best burger in town?
oui.
-
-
pick up green roses
and meet evie and her new beau, john?
of course.
-

-
best part?
telling "big O"
that she gets to come home soon:

the charlotte russe blogger style-off and coctail frenzy -

so after tim launched the new website for CR,
evelyn created a live-feed fashion blogger style off for the brand,
that fell right when i was in nyc.
-
imagine a room filled with new clothing,
fashion's little internet darlings,
an emerging brand,
coctails,
cameras,
and music:
-

-
then mix in old friends like richard christiansen and sara fisher from chandelier:
-
-
new friends like richard haines from whatisawtoday.blogspot.com :
-
-
katy dickson, timmer, hilary super, and julie greenberg from chicago:
-

-
shoes, clues, and interviews:
-

-
no wonder the racks were left empty at the end of the night!

birthday surprise in nyc - evelyn takes us to BASTIDE -

evelyn booked us into bastide,
a wonderful french restaurant in tribeca,
as a surprise for my birthday.
-
as we were walking towards it,
tim and i stopped dead in our tracks.
-
years earlier, after 9-11,
tim and i had wandered tribeca,
dreaming of living there.
-
we had found an abandoned building for sale,
had dreamed of converting it,
selling units,
living at that corner.
-
of course,
it was where bastide now resides.
-
-
you enter into a room of fresh apples:
-
-
and are candle-lit the entire meal:
-

-
there was something in that lobster and crespelle terrine
that i would have married:
-

-
and something in the evening i will never forget:

exotic and delicious - the sf dining moments

-
short weekend trip, but we ate well, as usual.
-
-
evie insisted on driving us everywhere,
which led to this very hitchcock moment.
-
and also, this very typically us moment at foreign cinema:
-
-
that booth has seen far too much of us.
-
then there was some time spent here:
-

-
drinking and eating like this:
-

-
that last dish is a buckwheat spaghetti with pork belly ragu, bacon, frizzled char, and golden raisins.
yes, drool.
-
then tackling an old favorite:
-

tim and i also got back to house of nanking:
-
-
it's just a plate of mushrooms.  and yet so much more than that.
-
but the best part of san francisco dining is always
the "dining with evie" part.
-

-
it pretty much takes, you know,
the cake.
