ode to a "moon" bag -

i have an odd affinity for all things moon related.

(DO NOT SEND ME MOON CRAP. no moon plates, no moon cookies, no moon franklin mint collectible dolls. you know how you mention to someone, oh, i don't know, that at one point in your life you were really into unicorns? this is just an example. it obviously would never have been me. and then suddenly they gave you, like, a unicorn figurine. and someone else gave you a unicorn plush animal. and you look up and the buggers are multiplying. so ixnay on the oonmay apcray.)

i think it's because i was born on the day the first men landed on the moon. true story.

my grandfather actually debated watching them land and watching me. seriously.

i can barely believe it.

he then suggested that they name me "moon". "moon smithers".
i swear, sometimes i am amazed i survived my family. i mean, they're sweet as hell, but i think there are times they just need to put DOWN THE GIN AND TONICS.

luckily, my mother wasn't drinking when she had me. granted, apparently she drank while i was baking, but it was the sixties, she was glamourous, and there were parties to be thrown. she did quit smoking. i think in the second trimester.

still, look, i'm here, i'm functional. and i'm not named "moon", so let's all give her a little slack.

so, all my life i've had a thing about the moon.

oh yeah, and i'm a cancer, so kinda, you know, ruled by the moon. phases. moody. gravitational pull on objects.

where the hell am i going with this post?

oh yeah, moon.

connie just bought the new balenciaga "lune" bag.

i HATE her.

when in the big apple, eat like pig -

ok, i'll try to keep this painless.

this is going to be alot of pictures of us out eating. sitting. and eating.

like at fred's upstairs at barney's.

i KNOW. i can't believe the sheer lack of self-humor they have about it, too.

or at Da Silvano,
where connie and kira started playing out tim case's inner fantasies.

well, maybe quite a few guy's fantasies.

and by "pigs", i mean kira and con.

but the tiramisu WAS good.

i think we ate so much richard had to squint to see us.
or something.

then wagiyu,
the new restaurant in the gramercy park hotel.

luxe chinese.

d. lish. us.

the bowery park hotel bar

where some old friends showed up to hang:

yes, the fireplace was warm,
the drinks were strong,
and the tales amusing . . .

such a nice way to wrap the week.

shopping on a budget of nothing -

and that, my friends, represents how i approached this round of comp shopping in new york.

it was excellent timing because:

1) the new spring lines had just hit the racks

2) i was on a newly self-imposed resolution budget

3) it was new york where you can find anything your soul craves

yes. excellent timing.

i think it was best summed up when we walked into barney's and saw this:

oh yes. that's an invitation to the dries van noten trunk show. uh huh. savor the irony.

or, perhaps, the swarm of newly acquired lines like rick owens.

oh yes. tons upon tons of rick owens.

this was NOT my dressing room. i think it was katie holmes'. or her stylist's. either way, i could only pull myself into half of the yellow dress before katie came back and went all crazy on me. she kept hitting me with that HUGE red birkin and i just stood there, making the point that it takes confidence to wear these kind of clothes.

the kind of confidence she just doesn't have.

then connie said something about lunch, and i took off the dress, put suri back in the birkin, and left katie to think over the lesson.

this, this is later in the week.

it's a store we have in san francisco called de vera,
filled with just beautiful beautifulness.

lots of precious antique glass and sculpture and jewelry and bowls and objets.

like this.

a bronze sumatran temple guard dog.

now this was a serious temptations.

i ALMOST caved and bought it. almost, my friends.

luckily i had left my cash at the hotel,
so was unable to pay out the full fifty eight thousand dollars on the spot,
so i put it on hold to think on it overnight.

there's that "open squint" again. go richard go.

i found a place where my budget,
and bunnies,
could live harmoniously:

all from a little store t-gret might be familiar with :

chocolate really does solve many of life's tougher issues.

old navy episodes - pattern play

episode two!

old navy episodes - pattern play pt. 3

out on the streets again. diagonal norte. hats. sun.

ms. sarah ruba.

ms. marilia barocco

people pretending to care:

me, pretending to care:

all of us, caring:

and someone who finally had no more reason to care:

the old navy episodes - pattern play pt. 2

and now, to the stairwell. the set was a "blade runnner" esque building in central buenos aires, simply shockingly beautiful:

paul goes pensive . . .

connie takes her perch:

the boys, well, do what the boys do:

darius called the light down from the heavens:

and nina? she ran up and down stairs all day.

i directed, more or less:

and everything came together.

rather nicely.
