BESOS - or, why the people you choose to keep in your life should be the ones that make you feel like THIS :

-
granted,
they can get a little "handsy" with each other,
but these people are the ones who believed in me,
or saw something in me i didn't see in myself,
and for the past three years
(3 YEARS!)
have worked tirelessly at my side.
-

-
this one random night out,
i looked around that table
and saw
my "ladies in red",
my "bang",
my manacop,
and my man.
-
they've worked for free on jobs,
they've brought new ideas and new possibilities to the table,
they've kept my spirits up . . .
-
find your people, people.
-
in the end, they're the only reason we ever succeed,
but more importantly,
they're the only reason we're ever happy.
-
it never felt like labor with them,
which i think is the whole point,
and how i want to live the rest of this life.
-
besos,
babies.

Dinner at Corton (the sea and the leaves)

-
our first night in the city
(and our only night alone, as it turned out)
we dined at Corton.
-
it reminded us of Blackbird in chicago,
but with a romantic touch.
-
minimal.
sleek.
all white.
-
save the pale plaster vines along the walls,
in bas relief,
with butterflies and random touches of gold leaf.
-

-
the food was simply inspired.
-
this wasn't really a meal as much as it was an exploration.
-
From "the sea" course ...
Oyster in sea water gelee with lemongrass cream,
hazelnuts, tamarind, and gold leaf:
-
-
The scallop with freeze dried soy, olive tapenade, crispy popped rice :
-
-
This was the peeky toe crab salad
The green liquid? The hot salad purée.
insanity.
-
-
Poached quail egg. Yellowtail. D'anjou pear.
Cucumber. Lemongrass gel. Sea salt marshmallow.
easily, tim's favorite:
-
-
they sent us two of those, he raved so much.
-
This is foie gras. And beets. And rhubarb jam. And brioche:
-
-
Baby sucking pochette. (piggie!).
Black truffle. Asparagus. Yuzu vinaigrette.
-
-
this?
this is a very happy tim:

THE JAMES HOTEL, NYC . . . an escape, for important reasons . . .

-

-
he kidnapped me.
to the city.
-
NYC.
-
there is only one.
-
we stayed for five amazing days
at the James hotel in soho.
seventeen stories of clean glass and killer food and amazing views
and peace
and quiet.
-

-
suffice to say,
it was much needed.
-
we all need to break from the world now and again,
and leave puppies and friends and stress and "reality"
tapping their feet for our return.
-

-
so we did some of this,
some of that,
and lots of this:
-
-
few things as beautiful as that,
the 4pm filtered light
nap.

In the thirties and forties, Hollywood referred to actors as “rug actors” (the ones who could do love scenes)” or “dust actors” (the ones who could shoot and fight). Don’t we all want a rug and dust man?

when looking for a partner in life,
i recommend the following traits, because in some ways, they are all that matter, they are all that really last :
1) someone more patient than you are, but mainly about the things that drive YOU crazy.
2) someone who makes you laugh.  but mainly at YOURSELF.
3) someone who can make you feel safe.  even from across the room.  or around the world.
4) someone who can hold you down when you struggle, and push you forward when you resist.
5) someone who says the things you can’t.
6) someone you can still surprise. just by being yourself.
7) someone who can’t count the years, because they seem to dissolve.
8) someone named timothy.

rug + dust, all the way.

why it WAS the most wonderful time of the year : xmas with jane -

-
christmas can be wonderful when your mother comes to town,
and:
-
1. she loves to shop as much as you do
-

-
2. there is official confirmation that your taste in expensive shit comes naturally:
-

-
3) there are SPRINKLES cupcakes to help fill the empty void left by the seven hundred thousand diamond bracelet in the window of graff
-

-
4) you all like to eat out, so hit lucques, nobu, etc
night after night
-

-
5) you discover that chanel's "particulier" nail lacquer not only goes with EVERYTHING
(as you promised your mother),
but it matches avec!
-

-
6) tim cook's "beggars purses" for xmas day:
-

-
7) you spend a last lazy morning overlooking l.a.
-

-
8) oh yeah.  you find out your mother is totally down with hanging at mr. black's on a tuesday night:
