RITUALS -

-
rituals are important to establish in life.
they provide us with consistency,
with touchpoints,
and with places that our memory can settle into,
ressurecting not just moments,
but whole segments of our lives.
-
for instance,
these days i treasure:
-
4 oclock rooftop moments in the sun:
-
-
any night out that luke nero and lenora claire throw:-
-
friday night sushi "dates" with tim at nobu :
-
 -
the way avec has to be ON the chair with me as i work:
-

-
while grr has to be ON my feet :
-
-
rituals,
they are good.

the charlotte russe blogger style-off and coctail frenzy -

so after tim launched the new website for CR,
evelyn created a live-feed fashion blogger style off for the brand,
that fell right when i was in nyc.
-
imagine a room filled with new clothing,
fashion's little internet darlings,
an emerging brand,
coctails,
cameras,
and music:
-

-
then mix in old friends like richard christiansen and sara fisher from chandelier:
-
-
new friends like richard haines from whatisawtoday.blogspot.com :
-
-
katy dickson, timmer, hilary super, and julie greenberg from chicago:
-

-
shoes, clues, and interviews:
-

-
no wonder the racks were left empty at the end of the night!

birthday surprise in nyc - evelyn takes us to BASTIDE -

evelyn booked us into bastide,
a wonderful french restaurant in tribeca,
as a surprise for my birthday.
-
as we were walking towards it,
tim and i stopped dead in our tracks.
-
years earlier, after 9-11,
tim and i had wandered tribeca,
dreaming of living there.
-
we had found an abandoned building for sale,
had dreamed of converting it,
selling units,
living at that corner.
-
of course,
it was where bastide now resides.
-
-
you enter into a room of fresh apples:
-
-
and are candle-lit the entire meal:
-

-
there was something in that lobster and crespelle terrine
that i would have married:
-

-
and something in the evening i will never forget:

NY in the summer, impressions after a trip -

ran to nyc this august for some casting,
some meetings,
and some of what we always do in nyc.
-
love the city.
-
-
the kids at chandelier creative sent me their traditional welcome gift:
-
-
how i adore thee, richard and sara!
-
then michael and i powered up and through the city,
past the graffitti,
katy's dog lolli,
and various other landmarks:
-

-
even took time to walk the high-line,
a park in the meatpacking district built on the ruins of an abandoned elevated train track.
kind of perfect:

and, oh yeah, i got older, too . . .

-
a month or so ago
in the middle of all the newness,
i aged.
-
so tim, that scoundrel,
threw a surprise party for me
right after the toronto shoot.
-
needless to say,
the food was . . . impressive.
-

-
he went with a dessert theme,
and the last cake is my favorite,
a "triple berry with whipped cream frosting"
that pretty much kills and leaves you a little wet.
-
the friends who showed up,
fresh from the set, and from my past few years in l.a.
made it amazing.
-

-
even bic, who LOVES having her pic taken . . .
-
-
needless to say, i was happy.  and thankful.
-

-
you gotta enjoy it as it happens, babies . . .
